Spiritual Guidance Introduction

Guided by the Spirit

For 20+ years, Viv has facilitated small groups and met one-with-one with people:

  • seeking and finding their life’s dreams,
  • supporting them to experiment at the margins of their comfort zones – where Spirit-by-any-name is often most present yet least known, and
  • fostering their growth into who and how they yearn to be.

To me, spiritual guidance/ direction is accompaniment that allows you to draw closer to that which you consider Holy. In the process you may wrestle with ego and other forces. Sharing those experiences with another human, whose purpose is to remain lovingly present with you, often enriches and eases that journey.

As a universalist Quaker with a deep regard for many forms of spirituality, I’m blessed in many ways to:

  • to be certified as a spiritual guide by a Sisters of Mercy program,
  • to have received spiritual direction from a rabbi who teaches spiritual direction with the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College near Philadelphia,
  • to offer spiritual guidance, and
  • to practice mutual spiritual direction and accountability in several groups over more than 15 years.

Spiritual Directors International offers this portrait of a spiritual director in their Presence magazine.

Of course, there’s much more to say about spiritual guidance but, for now, this offers a brief introduction.
